Artists Adrift—Regional musicians visit the Hollow on a wildly stormy night in July

As the day draws to a close and evening commences, the group gathers on the patio—the site of most all social activity when the Hubbard’s welcomed guests. The musicians start offering up a few ditties and get in synch as the dogs smell the vapors and peer off into the distance towards the coming storm. Once the storm arrives we move inside and the voices and instruments are accompanied by the thunder, with the lightning strikes offering an atmospheric concert light show. Once the storm passes, A Capella takes over to soothe in the spirits of the storm inside and out as the ghost of Paul Robeson—or the big man of some long ago forgotten Appalachian barber shop quartet—makes an appearance through a river rat that came along for the ride, not one of the chosen musicians.

Catfish Williams, from Folks School Kentucky, corralled some of his musician friends down to the Hollow for a special personal musical celebration. All professional musicians who play regionally, nationally and even internationally came here simply as friends and cohorts to honor art, music and simply being in a place that was created just for that… The trip was facilitated by the Ohio River Way and River City Paddlesports, the first night on a three-day canoe trip from Madison to Louisville paddling and playing all the way downstream…
